In today’s hurried world it’s sometimes easy to forget the little things. Here are some thoughts that have been sent in by members to help remind us that life is worth enjoying.

Thunderstorm

One evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?" The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. "I can't dear," she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room."

The long silence was at last broken by his shaky little voice: "The big sissy."

I Saw A Veteran Today
sent in by Dave

I saw a veteran today. It was in the driveway near the Old Soldier's home.

He hobbled along with his cane, but with a proper dignity of a man having proudly served his country.

As he walked along the drive, littered with lapel flags and the poppies from the DAV.

I noticed a sad look, as he stole a glance over his shoulder at the crowd.

Kids. Young kids with no appreciation of what serving their country means. Kids show up for a free snack, to say they went to the Old Soldiers Home on Veteran's Day. To listen to the radio DJ set up on the patio.

I watched as the veteran bent down and picked up a poppy and a flag. He dusted off the flag, and stuck it in his lapel. Then he took the poppy, straightened out the wire stem and slipped it into a button hole.

With one last look back, I saw the veteran turn again on his way to the parking lot.

Just as he turned his face to the afternoon sun, I caught a glimmer - of a tear.

Traffic Lights

A man and his wife are watching the news, where upon it is reported that several people were killed in a number of car accidents that afternoon. The man turns to his wife and says, "They really need to do something about the stuff traffic lights are made of." Frowning over this his wife asks "Why?"

"Because," he replies, "It appears to be killing a lot of people."
