By Nancy Ogaz

Appropriate for ages 9-12

Reviewed by an 11 year old girl with Asperger Syndrome in an interview with APOV

Cait's mom: A couple years ago I purchased this book for my daughter to read because the girl, Daisy, in the book reminded me very much of my daughter. Particularly the love they shared of animals. I had hoped the book would help teach my daughter a little about her own Aspergers. Since that time she has read it many times. I have also recommended it and passed it on to teachers, friends and family to read. I originally was going to review this book myself, but since it is a book directed at kids, who better to review it than a kid? I would like to thank her for taking the time to help me with this review. I also would highly recommend this book, particularly to girls with Aspergers or high functioning autism and those who love them.

APOV: Cait, tell me in your own words about Buster and the Amazing Daisy.

Cait: It is about a girl named Daisy who has Aspergers. She helps another kid in a wheelchair stay in their school by using a pet show. Daisy wins money by winning the pet show. The money helps the boy stay in school.

APOV: What is your favorite part of the book?

Cait: When Daisy makes a friend.

APOV: Can you tell me a little more about that?

Cait: Well…there was this girl with curly red hair…well really wild hair. She really likes animals too like Daisy does. They become friends and she helps Daisy with the pet show.

APOV: That is great Cait. So far you have told me about Daisy but who is Buster?

Cait: Buster is a black rabbit.

APOV: Oh…tell me more!

Cait: He is a really talented rabbit. Daisy teaches him lots of cool tricks. He is the pet Daisy uses in the show.

APOV: Is there anything about the book you didn’t like?

Cait: When Daisy gets hurt looking for Buster. Also, at first there is a bully who bully’s Daisy a lot.

APOV: Would you recommend this book and who would you recommend it to?

Cait: Yes, I would recommend it to anyone who knows about autism.

APOV: What about someone who doesn’t know about autism? Would this be a good book to help them learn about autism?

Cait: Yeah, I guess so.

APOV: Thank you very much for your time Cait.
